Oba Marshall, Ross, Cobb and Arbor Acres are commercial broiler strains, but there is no honest universal winner. A valid comparison must use birds raised under comparable conditions and must separate breeder objectives from Nigerian farm observations.
A Nigerian four-strain study
A Lagos study reared Arbor Acres, Cobb, Marshall and Ross together on deep litter with the same commercial feed and management for ten weeks. Mean final weights were 3.103 kg for Arbor Acres, 3.109 kg for Cobb, 2.326 kg for Marshall and 2.975 kg for Ross. Marshall had lower growth in that trial, but the researchers reported the least mortality, better uniformity and no mortality after the first three weeks.
These figures describe one humid-tropical trial. They are not current breeder targets and should not be used to promise farm performance.
Why breeder tables cannot be mixed casually
Ross and Cobb publish performance objectives produced under stated assumptions. Objectives are planning references, not guarantees.
