What counts as production cost?
Include chicks, feed, health, litter, utilities, labour, transport, rent and equipment wear. Use the Broiler Cost Calculator to build the total.
Profit is not cash received
Revenue is money earned from sales. Profit is revenue minus all costs. A farmer can receive a large sales payment and still lose money when feed, mortality and overheads are counted.
Break-even price
Break-even per kilogram is the selling price needed to cover costs after other revenue. Compare it with a realistic buyer price before placing chicks.
Use FCR and mortality
Track biological efficiency with the FCR Calculator and survival with the Mortality Tracker. A good FCR cannot rescue a batch with severe mortality or weak selling prices.
Record assumptions
Date-stamp feed prices, chick prices and selling prices. Keep conservative, expected and optimistic scenarios rather than relying on one forecast.
